8-Day M.A.D. (Make A Difference) Bike Ride
Make A Difference for children while you bike alongside the rooftop of Africa! Proceeds from the bike ride send orphaned children to school in Tanzania! What’s Included?

Overview of Terrain
Terrain varies from rolling hills and moderately steep inclines interspersed with reprieves of flatter areas through villages, mountain homelands, grasslands, forests, and areas of beautiful vast vistas.
Day 1 Arrival: Kilimanjaro International Airport You will arrive on KLM’s evening flight at 8:30pm where you will be met by our driver. Look for a sign that says, “Make A Difference.” We will drive you one hour to our guesthouse where you will meet our director. Day 2 Orphanage: Meet the children for whom you will be biking! Today we will go to the local market and get fresh fruits and veggies for the orphanage. We will spend a full day with the children at the orphanage playing sports and reading. Meals are provided by Make A Difference.
Day 3 Total Kilometers: 57 [ Miles: 27.6 ]
Breakfast at Make a Difference Guest House
A van will transfer you to Kidia. On your route today you will see “Old Moshi Town” an 18th century church built by the Germans, the Kidia Waterfall (the highest waterfall in Kilimanjaro National Park), local coffee and banana plantations, and the town of Marangu, known for being the gateway to the rooftop of Africa, also known as Kilimanjaro Mountain.
Destination: Lake Challa Campground
Day 4 Total km: 52 km [ Miles: 31.2 ]
The ride today will take you close to the border of Tanzania and Kenya through farmland with spectacular views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and the Pare Mountains (if it’s not cloudy).Your route will begin with 3.5 km of uphill with some variation of rolling hills followed by a steep incline to a mountaintop with a beautiful view of Kenya.
Destination: Snow Cap Campsite.
Day 5 Total km: 77 [ Miles: 47.8 ]
Today Mt. Kilimanjaro will be to the North as you cycle. You will cycle through forest, jungle, and plantations with the possibility of animal sightings. You will also pass through the territory of the Masai. The Masai are Tanzania’s tribal people who are still living in authentic fashion. Lunch will be at the wildlife corridor of the spectacular Amboseli National Park and Kilimanjaro. Dinner will be an outside barbecue around a campfire plus a sample of Kilimanjaro beers (non-alcoholic beverages, vegetarian and non-vegetarian food available). Destination: Ndarankwai Ranch Luxury Tented Camp with Hot Showers!
Day 6 Day and evening SAFARI! Bike amongst zebras, giraffes, elephants & more (with safari vehicle support alongside you). Choice of 30 km (18 mile) cycling safari or vehicle safari. The return drive to Ndaankwai Ranch for your overnight stay will be 3 hours.
Day 7 Total km: 49 [ Miles: 29.4 ]
This morning’s ride is primarily downhill on paved and pebble roads. One of the highlights of the journey is a visit to a local Masai Village, where you will learn about the Masai Tribes’ traditional ways. Lunch will be at Chemka Hot Springs. The afternoon can be spent swimming, walking around, or just relaxing. A BBQ supper and campfire will complete your day. Destination: Rundugai Chemka Camp.
Day 8 Return to Moshi Total Km: 46 Miles: 27.6 Our last day will include a small amount of uphill climbing. The views will be great vistas, rivers, and the old Arusha Railway. Destination: Make a Difference Guest House for hot showers and an early dinner before your flight out at 10:30pm on KLM.
Donation: We ask that you fundraise for a minimum of $1,000 for education for the children we help.
Price Breakdown:
- Kids' price for single double or triple will be $120 per day x 6 days: total $800
- Double prices or rates will be $155 per days x 6 days: total $1,000
- Triple price will be $148 per day x 6 days: total $900
- Single rates will be $172 per day x 6 days: total $1,500
Those who bring their own bike can subtract $100 off all prices above.
We encourage you to look into weight restrictions for shipping your bike with the airline you fly on before committing to taking your own bike. Costs may apply.
About the Bikes
Most of the bikes will be aluminum or iron mountain bikes or iron.
Brand name of the bikes: Merrida
Frame sizes are 18 up to 32
Gears are 18, 24 and 26 Shimano brand
Brake systems are V-brakes and disc brakes
All bikes have attachments for a bottle of water
Some have rack sack
Small frame sizes for kids are available
Bikes do not come with me jell seats
Size of the bike tires are 26
All bikes have space for GPS and bike computer/bike speed meter.
There is availability to fix or to put on your own clip pedals to any bike
