Sponsorship of a Make A Difference Child
Sponsorship is a special kind of giving that creates a relationship between the giver and the child/orphanage in which you are helping. Your sponsored child/children will write you throughout the year and we STRONGLY encourage you to write them back. Your sponsored child/children have lost either one or more parents, and our hope from this program is that they feel loved and supported. Your correspondence is a great gift to them! Please keep in touch!
Frequently Asked Questions about Sponsorship
Question: Does sponsorship allow me to be matched with an actual child?
Answer: As a Child Sponsor you have the opportunity to choose a child (by country, gender and/or age) and to communicate with him or her if desired. This allows you, as a sponsor, to connect with your sponsored child and to establish a friendship with him or her that will carry a special meaning for both of you. Our Orphanage Sponsors follow the progress of children who represent an orphanage. In addition to regular updates on our programs, you and all of the children’s sponsors will receive yearly updates about his or her progress and copies of a drawing or letter that the child has created for his or her sponsors. Program Sponsors support all of our programs and projects. You will receive regular updates on our programs via email and on Facebook.
Question: How much does sponsorship cost?
Answer: For only $30 a month — around a dollar a day — you can help sponsor a child’s education at a top rated school where he or she will receive breakfast and lunch Monday through Friday.
Question: How will my sponsorship contribution be spent?
Answer: M.A.D. strives to create lasting change for your sponsored child and their orphanage by making sure their school fees are paid and they have uniforms, backpacks and food. M.A.D. has learned that one of the most effective ways of helping children is to combine your sponsorship gifts with those of other sponsors and donors - rather than giving them directly to your sponsored child. This system ensures that children at our orphanages, who may never have the opportunity to have a sponsor of their own, will still benefit from our sponsorship programs. You can feel confident that M.A.D. will spend your contributions wisely. In fiscal year 2009, M.A.D. spent 90 percent of all expenditures on program services.
Question: Why should I sponsor a child through M.A.D.?
Answer: M.A.D. is a grassroots run organization. Every donor and volunteer gets to see how money is spent. You are encouraged to visit your sponsored child and see how we operate at anytime. You are part of our family and our doors are always open.
Question: Are my contributions tax deductible?
Answer: Yes. Please contact your tax advisor with any questions.
Question: How long will my sponsorship last?
Answer: That’s entirely up to you. Sponsorship is a voluntary, ongoing contribution. Many of our sponsors have supported our work for years and we hope that our relationship with you will be long-term as well.
Question: Can I give a gift sponsorship?
Answer: Yes! You may do this by going through JustGive.org and clicking on Make A Difference.
Question: May I send a gift to my sponsored child/children?
Answer: You may send a gift, but we ask that it be under $50 and one or more of the following: socks, underwear, black school shoes, shoe polish, soap, petroleum jelly, lotion, comb, paper, pens, markers. We ask so all of the kids get the same gifts and avoid spoiling just one. For special days (ie. Birthdays) we would like to encourage you to donate $15 so that we can buy milk and cookies for all the children to celebrate together. The children also love pictures. Please feel free to send pictures of yourself or your family so they can learn more about your life.
Question: Who can I contact if I have questions about my sponsorship?
Answer: You may email us at info@MakeADifferenceNOW.org
