In spite of growth and implied prosperity, India remains a place of widespread poverty. It has a high level of illiteracy, malnutrition and environmental exploitation. One quarter of the country’s population earns less than 15-20 rupees per day (US 50 Cents). In Mysore, 19% of the population live below the poverty line and nearly 10% live in slums.
Rama Srinidhi and her husband Nidhi are the directors of our India program. They are native born locals of Southern India who have a strong desire to share their culture with others throughout the world. They also have an interest in making a difference in the lives of orphaned children and the disadvantaged. Rama and Nidhi will show you the highlights of Southern India, teach you the local languages, music and cuisines while also showing you orphanages and schools that we support where you can help with various projects.
