“I want to be a politician so I can end poverty and corruption in Tanzania.”

Stanley’s Story

Stanley, (village name, Mwenda) was born in 1997 in Nairobi, Kenya. His mother was from Tanzania and his father from Kenya. Stanley moved to Tanzania when he was five-years-old. He had one brother named Nelson who died when he was three-years-old and a brother named Elia who lives with his grandmother. She can afford to give Stanley's brother one meal a day, but can't take care of his education. Both of Stanley's parents have died. His mother's name was Fausta and his father's name was Lawrence. Stanley's father worked in the publishing industry binding books. His father came from a family where everyone depended on him financially for help. He passed away from AIDS in Kenya while Stanley was in Tanzania with his mother; Stanley was only five years-old. After his father passed away his mother died. She was HIV + and died from Malaria. She had to be on a drip and got very sick. Stanley remembers getting her water and after she drank it, his mother died. He cries when he tells the story. Before moving to the orphanage, Stanley would often get sick. He recalls only having one meal a day, no electricity and rarely having clean water to drink. Life is much better for him now that MADNow is helping him.

Stanley would someday like to fly a plane to see the world go into space. His best memory with MADNow thus far has been a day hike up Kilimanjaro. He loves going to school and when he grows up he wants to be a great politician or a lawyer. He is good at debate, language, and history. He would like to bring development to his country. He also likes to write, enjoys science, discussing the news, and how politicians in Tanzanian could better improve the country. Stanley is currently attending Mzumbe University in Tanzania undertaking a law degree to become a lawyer. He is expected to graduate in 2020.
