This intimate cultural walking tour is thoughtfully curated and led by MAD Now graduates who will tailor the experience to your interests, whether you’re curious about everyday Tanzanian life, local food, education, entrepreneurship, or the deep cultural roots of the Chagga people who live in the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro.
As you stroll through Moshi’s lively streets, you’ll experience a town where tradition and modern life intersect. Walk past open-air shops, local cafés, tailoring stalls, and neighborhood gathering points. Visit bustling markets filled with fresh produce—bananas, avocados, coffee beans, spices, and seasonal fruits—while learning how trade, agriculture, and community shape daily life.
Your alumni guide will introduce you to local dishes and cooking traditions, sharing how families prepare meals using fresh ingredients grown on nearby farms. Depending on your interests, the tour may include a visit to a local school, small business, community project, or coffee and banana farm—staples of the Kilimanjaro region’s economy and heritage.
Along the way, you’ll hear personal stories: what it was like growing up in Moshi, how education changed their trajectory, and how Make A Difference Now helped open doors to opportunity.
