Volunteer Remotely or
in Tanzania

Our Philosophy

We believe the most meaningful volunteer experiences are built on partnership, not charity.

We don't ask volunteers to "save" communities. Instead, we invite people to share their knowledge, learn from Tanzanian leaders, and work alongside our staff to strengthen programs that are already creating lasting change.

Volunteer With Make A Difference Now

Whether you have a few hours to give from home, a free afternoon while visiting Tanzania, or a month to immerse yourself in our work, there's a place for you at Make A Difference Now. Our volunteer opportunities are designed to create meaningful experiences for you while providing lasting value to our students, staff, and community.

1. MAD Impact Fellows

Share Your Skills. Expand Our Impact.

The MAD Impact Fellows program connects professionals, students, and change-makers from around the world with meaningful opportunities to support our mission, no travel required.

Fellows volunteer their expertise remotely on flexible projects that strengthen our organization and empower our students. Whether you contribute a few hours a month or lead a longer-term initiative, your skills can create lasting impact.

Examples of opportunities:

  • Mentor students in career readiness or entrepreneurship

  • Lead a virtual book club or English conversation group with children to young adults

  • Write or review grant proposals

  • Present to schools, churches, or Rotary clubs about MAD

  • Design marketing materials or manage social media campaigns

  • Coach staff on technology, AI, or nonprofit best practices

  • Review resumes and conduct mock interviews

  • Help build partnerships with businesses and universities

Commitment: Flexible (typically 2–10 hours per month)

Best for: Professionals, retirees, university students, and anyone who wants to support MAD from anywhere in the world.

2. Day of Impact

Visiting Tanzania? Spend a Day Making a Difference.

Many travelers come to northern Tanzania to climb Kilimanjaro, experience safari, or explore the region. If you're already visiting, we invite you to spend a few hours or a full day learning about our work and engaging with our community.

Rather than simply touring our programs, you'll participate in meaningful activities alongside our staff and students.

Possible experiences include:

  • Share your career journey with our alumni

  • Join an English conversation session

  • Participate in entrepreneurship or career workshops

  • Help with special events or community projects

  • Assist with photography or storytelling

Whether you have half a day or an entire day available, your visit can make a meaningful contribution while providing a deeper understanding of life and education in Tanzania.

Commitment: Half day to 2 days

Best for: Safari travelers, Kilimanjaro climbers, mission teams, study abroad groups, and visitors looking for a meaningful cultural experience.

3. Global Impact Internship

Live. Learn. Contribute.

The Global Impact Internship is a four-week immersive experience designed for university students, young professionals, and career changers seeking meaningful international nonprofit experience. Interns become temporary members of the Make A Difference Now team, working alongside local staff on projects that strengthen our programs while gaining hands-on experience in international development, education, entrepreneurship, and nonprofit management.

Unlike traditional volunteer trips, each intern is matched with a project based on their skills, academic background, and career goals. Every internship includes a capstone project that leaves a lasting resource or improvement for the organization, ensuring sustainable impact beyond the intern's stay.

The four-week experience includes:

  • Comprehensive orientation and cultural immersion

  • Staff mentorship and project supervision

  • Safe housing and three meals daily

  • Professional development and networking opportunities

  • Weekly reflection and feedback sessions

  • Certificate of completion and professional reference

  • A final project presentation to MAD staff

Program Fee

Interns pay a small program fee that covers housing, meals, airport transportation, orientation, supervision, administrative support, and cultural programming. A portion of the fee also supports Make A Difference Now's educational programs, allowing participants to invest directly in the long-term sustainability of the organization's mission.

The internship is designed to be both a professional development opportunity and a sustainable funding stream that expands MAD's capacity while providing participants with an authentic, high-impact experience in Tanzania.

Additional fees for excursions such as safari, Mt. Kili climb, etc. But the fee can be covered by fundraising locally.

Best for: University students, graduate students, career changers, and professionals seeking international nonprofit experience.

Internship tracks include:
